Personal Archives for Beginners

Map your own history by revisiting some of the letters, photographs, stubs, journals and other memorabilia you've saved over the years. The workshop will encourage you to explore your lived history in stimulating, exciting and unusual ways. You’ll learn how to work with collage, photos, oral testimonies, walking tours, scrapbooks and memory boxes and whatever it takes to create your own personal (or family and community) archive for posterity.

Ajamu X is a photographer and community archivist. He is the co-founder of rukus! Black LGBT Archive and curator of The Queen's Jewels and Outside Edge exhibitions.


Roger Mason is co-author of the graphic novel London Inferno. He has worked with the BBC, Channel Four and various advertising agencies. He is working on The Mice, a full-length graphic novel.

Interest in comics is at an all-time high! Join the trend and learn how to draw comics and tell stories through practical exercises and hands-on work. You'll be introduced to figure drawing techniques, as well as to elements of story-telling, lettering, perspective and observational drawing. Work will be featured in our new Zine Project, and you'll get advice about ways of sharing your work (self-publishing, creating mini-comics, online opportunities, etc). of vocabulary, some grammar, no experience necessary.
